Migration Guide

Zoho Books is a feature-rich platform, but its strength—deep integration with the Zoho ecosystem—becomes a weakness if you don't use other Zoho products. The interface can feel overwhelming with dozens of settings and configuration options, and the lack of meaningful AI automation means you're still doing the heavy lifting of categorization and reconciliation manually.

FiscalInsights offers a cleaner migration path to modern, AI-powered accounting. Your Zoho Books data exports cleanly and imports into FiscalInsights with proper category mapping. The simplified interface doesn't mean fewer features—it means less time navigating menus and more time getting insights from your financial data.

For US-based businesses, the switch is especially beneficial. FiscalInsights includes built-in US tax estimation, 1099 preparation, and IRS-compliant reporting that Zoho Books handles less gracefully. The AI categorization engine learns your preferences within days and handles routine transactions automatically, turning bookkeeping from a weekly chore into a quick daily review.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Export Zoho data

In Zoho Books, go to Settings > Data Backup to generate a complete export. This includes your chart of accounts, transactions, contacts, invoices, and bills. The export generates as a ZIP file with CSV files for each data type. Download it and save it locally.

2

Create account

Sign up at fiscalinsights.com and select "Migrating from Zoho Books" during onboarding. This activates import mappings designed for Zoho's specific data structure, including handling of Zoho custom fields and tax configurations.

3

Import data

Upload the Zoho backup ZIP file in the Migration Center. The importer extracts and maps your chart of accounts, customer/vendor records, and transaction history. Zoho's detailed categorization translates well to FiscalInsights, though you may want to simplify some categories during the review step.

4

Set up integrations

Connect your bank accounts and any third-party tools you use. If you were using other Zoho products that fed data into Zoho Books, set up equivalent integrations in FiscalInsights—we integrate with 40+ tools including payment processors, e-commerce platforms, and payroll providers.

5

Go live

Compare your opening balances and recent reports between Zoho Books and FiscalInsights to verify accuracy. Once confirmed, redirect any recurring integrations from Zoho to FiscalInsights, set up your team member access, and you're fully operational.
