Migration Guide

Sage has served businesses well for decades, but its desktop-era roots show in the interface, workflow complexity, and pricing model. Many Sage users are paying for enterprise-grade features they never use, dealing with an interface that requires training to navigate, and missing the AI automation that modern cloud platforms deliver out of the box.

The migration from Sage to FiscalInsights modernizes your entire accounting workflow. Instead of batch processing and monthly reconciliation, you get real-time bank feeds and AI-powered categorization. Instead of generating reports through complex menu trees, you get an instant dashboard with visual analytics. And instead of desktop software tied to one computer, you get cloud access from any device with a full-featured mobile app.

Pricing is often the trigger for Sage users to explore alternatives. Sage plans can run $50-400/month depending on the tier and add-ons, with additional costs for payroll, multi-currency, and advanced reporting. FiscalInsights includes all features in every paid plan at $19-49/month with no hidden add-on costs. For small businesses ready for modern accounting without the legacy software overhead, the switch from Sage is transformative.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Export Sage data

For Sage 50 Desktop, go to File > Import/Export > Export and select your chart of accounts, transaction history, customer/vendor lists, and open invoices. For Sage Business Cloud Accounting, use Settings > Export Data to download CSV files of all your financial data.

2

Create your FiscalInsights account and select "Migrating from Sage" during setup. The import tool is configured to handle both Sage 50 and Sage Business Cloud export formats, so choose your version during the import process.

3

Import files

Upload your Sage export files in the Migration Center. The importer maps Sage's account structure to FiscalInsights categories, handles nominal codes translation, and preserves department/cost center allocations where possible. Review the category mapping carefully as Sage often has a more granular chart of accounts.

4

Connect banks

Set up automatic bank feeds through Settings > Bank Connections. If you were manually importing bank statements into Sage, this is a major upgrade—transactions now flow in automatically and get AI-categorized without any manual intervention.

5

Verify

Run comparative reports between Sage and FiscalInsights to verify that balances match. Pay special attention to open AP/AR balances and bank account reconciliation status. Once verified, you can start working exclusively in FiscalInsights.
